The Basics
What Is Grab Hire?
A grab lorry is a tipper truck with a hydraulic arm and a clamshell bucket bolted on the back. Instead of you loading waste by hand into a skip, the driver uses the arm to scoop it straight off the ground and into the truck.
That arm reaches about 6 metres, so the lorry can load from the road while your waste sits behind a wall, fence or hedge. No carrying it out to the kerb, no skip sitting on your drive for a week.
It's usually cheaper and faster than skips for heavy waste. One 8-wheel load takes roughly 3–4 large skips' worth of soil, rubble or concrete, and it's loaded and gone in about 20 minutes. Skips have to sit on site until you've filled them, and often need a council permit if they're on the road.
Grab hire suits soil, clay, hardcore, concrete, brick, rubble and mixed construction waste. It's the standard choice for muck away on building sites, driveway and garden digs, and anywhere access is tight.
